Pyramid
Lake is the largest remnant of ancient Lake Lahontan that
covered much of northwestern Nevada. Located thirty five miles
northeast of Reno the lake is in a remote desert region.
After the drive through the desert you are rewarded by a spectacular
view of the lake. In 1925 a Paiute named Johnny Skimmerhorn
caught the world's record cutthroat here; a 41-pounder.
Today fishing is still popular but be sure you follow all
the regulations and get a tribal permit. In Sutcliffe, you'll
find the Pyramid Lake Marina, with a visitor center and museum,
as well as stores and services. Pyramid lake an interesting

Many of the roads around the lake are dirt and sand. Its a
good idea to avoid these unless you have four wheel drive.
The Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe operates
several hatcheries around the lake and may give tours during
season.
Pyramid
Lake is not lake Tahoe so bring plenty of drinking water,
food and your camera. The drive to the lake is through high
desert scrub and at the top of each hill you will be wondering
where the lake is . Finally the view of the lake is in front
of you and you know the trip was worth taking. Plan on spending
a full day visiting Pyramid Lake.
