Nevada Day Trips Destination Guide to the Silver State Pyramid Lake Nevada

Pyramid lake is the largest remnant of ancient Lake Lahontan that covered much of northwestern Nevada. Located thirty five miles northeast of Reno the lake is in a remote desert region. After the drive through the desert you are rewarded by a spectacular view of the lake. In 1925 a Paiute named Johnny Skimmerhorn caught the world's record cutthroat here; a 41-pounder. Today fishing is still popular but be sure you follow all the regulations and get a tribal permit. In Sutcliffe, you'll find the Pyramid Lake Marina, with a visitor center and museum, as well as stores and services. Pyramid lake makes a great day trip form Reno. Avoid the dirt roads unless you have four wheel drive and bring plenty of drinking water.
