Pony
Express Territory of Nevada.
Follow highway 50 through Central Nevada for an adventure
on the loneliest road in America. The road roughly parallels
the trail blazed by the Pony Express riders. Highway 50 was
part of the original Lincoln Highway, the first intercontinental
road in the United States. Nevada uses custom highway 50
markers along the route. The path through Pony Express territory
take you past miles of high desert full of sagebrush and
scenic mountainous areas. Many
stores along the route sell Loneliest Road in America passports, "survival
kits". Travelers can pick up the free survival kit at
Chambers of Commerce, museums, restaurants, motels, and gas
stations along Route 50. The kit contains a state road map,
a brochure called the "Survival Guidebook" showing
some things to see, and a map of the road.
