Pony Express Territory of Nevada. Follow highway 50 through Central Nevada for an adventure on the loneliest road in America. The road roughly parallels the trail blazed by the Pony Express riders. Highway 50 was part of the original Lincoln Highway, the first intercontinental road in the United States. Nevada uses custom highway 50 markers along the route. The path through Pony Express territory take you past miles of high desert full of sagebrush and scenic mountainous areas. Many stores along the route sell Loneliest Road in America passports, "survival kits". Travelers can pick up the free survival kit at Chambers of Commerce, museums, restaurants, motels, and gas stations along Route 50. The kit contains a state road map, a brochure called the "Survival Guidebook" showing some things to see, and a map of the road.
Fallon Nevada - Fallon is the queen city on Highway 50. The area is steeped in western heritage. Visit the Churchill County Museum and Archives, one of the finest little museums in the West.

Austin - Austin was once a flourishing old-west mining town. visitors are welcome to enjoy the historic buildings, browse in the library and stroll along weathered sidewalks
Historical Society of Austin Nevada - Several historic buildings including a museum located in the old Gridley store on U.S. Highway 50 East
Belmont, Nevada - The town is one of Nevada's most popular ghost towns. Buildings & mills in the area date back to the 1860's The belmont Inn is still open.
Eureka Sentinel Museum - Interprets the history of Eureka. On the ground floor you will find a complete press room from the 1800's. There is a gift shop to buy souvenirs.
Eureka - No other Nevada community has retained its historical character like Eureka. The Eureka Opera House, built in 1880 and restored in 1994 and is a must see.
Baker Nevada - Located five miles east of the Great Basin National Park visitor center and the entrance to Lehman Caves. Desert heat during the day, cool breezes in the evening
Ely Nevada - One of the most interesting and beautiful areas in the west. Home of the Ghost Train, the restored Nevada Northern Railway.

Garnet Fields Rock hound Area - This nationally known rock hounding area is famous for its dark red garnets found in volcanic rock.
East Ely Railroad Depot Museum - The Museum sits on a complex of 24 historic buildings. Train rides on vintage steam equipment are also available.
