Nevada State Museum Carson City

Located in Carson City, the museum is housed in a former United States Branch Mint building.On display are collections relating to the State, the mint, natural history, mining, and archeology. Some highlights of the museum are, displays of Indian basketry, archaeology, natural history, gaming and an underground silver mine.

The main focus of the State Museum Carson City Nevada history from 1850 - 1900, a period dominated by silver and gold mining. The walk-through ghost town leads to a silver mine where you can see what it was like to be a miner 100 years ago. Also on hand is a fascinating collection of antique slot machines, a large exhibit of early model guns. The The Carson City Mint a branch of the United States Mint was the original occupant of the building and even though its now a museum there is a large collection of coins produced at the mint on display.

Open Wednesday - Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. The museum is closed Sunday - Tuesday.
