Things to do and Places to See Northern Nevada

Nevada's Cowboy Country is where the American Wild West is still alive. This area offers many day trips including historic sites, trails, and outdoor recreation activities. Highway 80 runs through the center of Cowboy Country with stopovers at Wells, Battle mountain and Winnemucca. northeast Nevada remains today largely as it was 100 years ago, with fresh clean air, vast ranges, pristine mountaintops and wide open desert. Plan on spending a couple of days exploring this region. Always keep your car in good condition and carry plenty of water. It can be 50 miles to the nearest service station.
Battle Mountain - A small rural community located in the high desert region. Access to miles off public lands where you can hike, camp, hunt, and fish. Explore the Ghost town of Galena or travel to desert oasis.
Carlin - Nickname is Where The Train Stops...And the Gold Rush Begins. The Carlin Canyon Historical Wayside, east of the city, was a travel route for Native Americans. 23 miles west of Elko along Interstate 80
Nevada Northern Railway Museum - historic facilities, yards, and rail collection. This evolving museum gives people the opportunity to experience a world-class, historic, working railroad.".
Jarbidge - Located in the Jarbidge Wilderness Area. This small town is your starting point for Hiking, 4-wheeling, dirt biking, horseback riding,snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, fishing, and hunting.
Lovelock - The city lies in a level meadow valley bounded by the Humboldt Range to the east and the Trinity and Seven Troughs ranges to the north and west. Restored Union Pacific Railroad Deot in the middle of town.
Paradise Valley - A living Ghost town forty miles north of Winnemucca. The Mercantile, Saloon and the Stonehouse Country Inn are all open for business. Located at the base of the Santa Rosa Mountains.
McDermitt - The state line goes through the White Horse Inn, a now-abandoned saloon. The old McDermitt Jail can be opened up and people are allowed inside for pictures. Town is split in half by the state line.
Wells - A railroad town and was once a stopover for passenger trains. Located near the alpine lakes of the Ruby Mountains and lower Humboldt Range.
West Wendover - West Wendover has a myriad of activities including historic sites, trails, outdoor recreation as well as some of the west's best night life for you to enjoy.
Winnemucca - "The Crossroads of the West". A great jumping-off point for outdoor recreation. The historic downtown has boutiques, restaurants and pubs.
Lamoille - Located on the Western flanks of the Ruby Mountains, and is the gateway to this range via the National Scenic Byway. Horseback riding, fishing, and other activities.
Elko Nevada - Elko is the host to the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering. Many historic places of interest are located in and around Elko.
Jackpot - Located less than 1 mile from the Idaho border. Within a few minutes in any direction, catch your limit of rainbow, brown, or brook trout. A high-desert jewel.
